Quick Forgiveness

When your horse knocks you to the ground, stop and assume positive intent.  Yesterday I was feeding my horse Sage, and she swung her head around and knocked me to the ground.  My first instinct was to turn on her in anger, but something stopped me.  Maybe it was because she is pregnant or that she is my favorite horse – the one I named my company after.  She is expecting a colt in June, and we are keeping her in a smaller pen to feed her special grain for pregnant mares.  I realized that she was not trying to hurt me but just didn’t have room to maneuver.

I am reading a great book about the Wright brothers. What a fantastic partnership they had. Once Wilbur was in France to demonstrate their new flying machine. Orville was supposed to pack the plane and ship it to him. When it arrived, it was a mess. Wilbur exploded in a letter, “I’m sure with a scoop shovel, I could have done better… this is an example of idiocy. ”Wilbur soon learned that the fault was not his brother’s but instead careless customs inspectors, so he apologized. Orville made no issue of the matter whatsoever, knowing the great stress his brother was under. Next time we get knocked down by someone, let’s pause and assume positive intent before reacting.
