Passion

MUCH LIKE COVID, PASSION IS ALSO SUPER CONTAGIOUS

Right now, we are all obsessing with catching the virus, but something else that spreads quickly is passion. Last night we introduced a new horse to our herd–number 12 if you're counting. All the other horses are quarter horses, the most common breed here in the American West, but our new mare is Arabian. They are known for being high-spirited. The first thing she did was run like lightning around the entire perimeter of one of our 40-acre fenced-in pastures. It is incredible to see the effect she is having on the other horses. They have all suddenly seemed to spring to life–matching her running and jostling with each other.

This week we hosted a talented group of leaders for a team retreat at the ranch. While I got some positive feedback on my portion, the star was my teammate Dan Woodland, one the few remaining true cowboys who led the event's horse training portion. Dan is the real deal and has a tremendous passion for horses that seems to pour out of him. The group was spellbound. This short video is one of the participants at the culmination of the day's activities on top of the mountain we climbed with the horses. Listen to him describe how Dan's passion for horses rubbed off on him.
